PRODUCT REVIEW: Root 2 Tip Grow-it-long Scalp Serum

If you follow me on Instagram (@nicoleshamerra) then you will have seen that I bought the Root 2 Tip Grow-it-long Scalp Serum a couple of months ago and this review is well overdue! I've struggled with having dry, itchy scalp for years and I've tried so many home remedies and products that I've lost count...
Then I came across this game changer! Even though my scalp still isn't perfect, it's much better than before and I can easily say that the Grow-it-long scalp serum will be a permanent fixture in my hair cupboard for the foreseeable future - I'm already preparing to repurchase when it runs out!

Price
 £12.99

Admittedly at first I thought this was quite pricey (as a student I usually prefer products the other side of £10!) BUT I do understand that sometimes if you want good quality ingredients then you need to pay a little bit more and this serum is organic and 100% natural! Also as a small UK business the cost to produce is likely to be more than for huge US companies that can produce on mass for a cheaper cost (hence the lower prices).

Ingredients
Ricinus communis (Castor-bean) oil, Prunus Dulcis, (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cocos Nucifera, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract.

In basic terms, the serum is full of all natural and organic oils and goodness, including Sweet Almond, Coconut, Castor and Rosemary Essential Oil, that are great for promoting a healthy scalp. It's especially formulated for dry itchy scalp, dandruff, thinning hair and slow hair growth. Rosemary essential oil is one of the key ingredients that works wonders for the scalp as it helps to stimulate blood flow and nourish hair from the roots to promote growth, shine and prevent hair loss and dandruff. It also contains active sulfur extract that encourages dead skin to thin and shed, which helps promote a clean scalp and gives a soothing effect when the serum is applied.

How to use
The serum comes in an applicator bottle that makes it easy to use and minimises the risk of dripping oil on your clothes or elsewhere. You can easily apply the serum to a concentrated area of the scalp with the applicator or all over and then massage it in with your fingers to really stimulate the scalp and promote hair growth.

The applicator tip has to be unscrewed for the oil to come out, which is great because it means if you screw it closed there are no leaks and you don't have to worry about the cap falling off if you travel with the bottle.

Recommended use is 3 x per week for hair growth and 1 x per week or as and when needed to control dryness, itchiness and flakes. I tend to use it just after washing my hair and then as and when my scalp seems dry during the week, which is usually 2-3 times/week.

Final thoughts
Well...I think I'm on to a winner!

With products like this I think you have to wait a couple of weeks or even months to see the real effects because dry scalp won't change overnight. Over the past couple of months I've seen a significant improvement in my scalp and I'm really pleased. Throughout the week between washes, my scalp is much less itchy, in fact it barely itches at all. Although my scalp does still get dry, it's no way near as bad as it was before and the flakiness that I used to get towards the end of the week has reduced massively.

There's only one thing about the product that I'm not too keen on - the smell. The scent of the serum is quite strong, which I think might be due to the rosemary oil. I can smell it quite strongly on my hair after I apply it, so I try not to use it just before I go out. Although that being said, the smell does fade within a couple of hours and it's not the worst smell in the world (it's bearable!).
