Bantu Knot Out

Another attempt

I made a spur of the moment decision the other day to give the bantu knot out another try. I've tried a few times before and I was just left with my hair sticking out in all kinds of directions - not cool. BUT seeing as I need to widen my hair style horizons I thought, why not?

Castor Oil Trial

Sheabutter Cottage 2for1!!

If you want to give castor oil a try then Sheabutter Cottage has the perfect offer.

Check out their website: http://www.akuawood.co.uk/

I wish I had some spare money to indulge in this offer at the moment - oh the joys of being a student -_- At the moment I'm using the Tropic Isle Living Jamaican Black Castor with Coconut on my hair and I'm loving it. I'm a coconut oil feind so this oil is perfect for me - All the goodness of castor oil with the added amazingness of coconut oil to make it even better.

I've been looking into why people seem to go crazy for Castor Oil and found out its list of benefits:

Fresh Hair

Wash Day

I did a simple pre-poo using coconut oil (this was a great choice), which I left on for a couple of hours whilst getting on with other things. I followed my standard hair wash regime, using the Curls Unleashed Sulfate Free Shampoo and a protein DC which was simply the Organic Roots Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise on its own. I also gave my Tresseme Naturals conditioner another try and my hair seemed to be loving that as well. Its great for detangling hair because its got so much slip and my hair felt super soft after rinsing it out - its a keeper!

My Shea Moisture Curl and Style Milk ran out the other day *cries*, so I had to find a replacement moisturiser and I spotted the Curls range in Beauty Queen Cosmetics on my search! Yeyurr.. I couldn't help myself so I bought two products to try out (quite reasonable I think, not a fully fledged product haul). I bought the Curly Q Milkshake (£7.99) from their Curly Q's product line to use as my moisturiser and the Quenched Curls Leave In (£6.99). It'll take a few uses of them both for me to say what I think of them though, so I'll probably do a review in a couple of weeks.

The Twistout

I kind of took the easy route and went for a flat twistout (my favourite - pretty much the same as canerows except with twists instead of plaits).
I decided to use the Shea Moisture Curling Souffle to style with...I only used a tiny bit on each section because thats seriously all you need. A little goes a LONG way. I ended up with 9 flat twists in total, which I left to airdry and then slept on them (under my satin headscarf of course).

Winter Woes

Retaining Moisture

One of my biggest hair problems at the moment is retaining moisture, especially in my ends.

This weather is a nightmare - in general, as well as for my hair. My ends are already prone to getting really dry, so this cold and windy weather isn't helping at all. I'm sure I'm not the only one whose hair is suffering at the moment.

To be honest I only really noticed how dry the ends of my hair get more recently whilst wearing my hair curly and I've been trying to find a way to sort it out. A method that I discovered and have found really useful is the L.O.C method:
  1. First apply Liquid - Water or a water based leave-in
  2. Apply Oil next - Any oil of your choice
  3. Lastly apply a Cream or butter - Any cream based product or a butter.

First post

A New Era

First ever blog post! eeek - I'm hoping that this blog will be a place that I can share some of the information I find out about natural hair, share some hair inspirations, discuss some hair related topics and more.

So what's going on at the moment with my hair? If you've read my 'about me' page then you'll know that I'm a recovering straightener addict, embracing my kinks, curls and coils and aiming to get healthier hair.
